Once you’ve finally purchased the hot tub, you naturally want to enjoy it for as long as possible. You can remarkably extend the life of your spa by properly maintaining it. Such maintenance includes cleaning the Jacuzzi. This doesn’t take much time. In this blog, we explain why you should clean your bubble bath properly and how to do this.
What happens if I don’t clean my hot tub?
It’s logical that it’s important to maintain a hot tub properly. After all, you take a bath to get nice and fresh, which is not possible in a dirty spa. Therefore, thoroughly clean your hot tub to avoid the following:
- Clogged Pipework and Clogged Nozzles
- Spread of bacteria
- Calcified taps
How do you best clean your Jacuzzi?
If you pay the necessary attention to the points below, you will be able to enjoy your spa for years to come.
- Clean and change the spa water regularly.
- Clean the filter cartridge at least once a week by means of a spray clean with a garden hose. And once a month soak for 1 hour, in a bucket or container with water together with two cleaning tablets, and then rinse well.
- Take a shower (don’t use soap) before entering your spa and clean swimwear without detergent. It will prevent detergents and soap scum from entering the water in your spa.
- Don’t leave the spa in the sun without water or sealing. Direct exposure to sunlight can damage the tub.
- Cover the spa when not in use (empty or filled). It provides protection in rain and snow.
- Don’t tilt the spa. This will damage the structure.
Cleaning the tub
To clean the inside of the spa, it’s best to use a soft cloth or sponge and possibly a gentle cleaning product. Don’t use any abrasive or corrosive cleaning agents. The best time to clean the tub is during periodic water changes. Use this opportunity and spray the filter housing and the inner walls of the bath well with a garden hose while emptying the bath. With the help of a soft brush on a long handle, the job is done in no time.
Clean your spa’s filter
Besides the importance of regularly cleaning the shell of your spa, the spa filter also needs to be cleaned. It’s recommended that you clean it at least once a week by spraying it with a garden hose and thoroughly clean it once or twice a month. If you don’t do this, the filter cartridge can become blocked by limescale. This can result in poorer water circulation.
The first important step in the filter cleaning process is rinsing. Rinsing can be done in a bucket of water, under the tap, or with a garden hose. Make sure that the water pressure is not too high, as this can destroy your filter. (So don’t use a high-pressure cleaner!) You can rinse it with cold water. Warm water removes the skin fats that the filter has captured penetrates deeper into the pores. In particular, don’t wipe your fingers or other objects between the pleats of the filter. The filter will be damaged as a result and will no longer do its job properly.
When do you know if you have rinsed enough? Fill a plastic box with water, put the filter in it, and close the box tightly. Shake well, and then see what the water looks like in the box. If there is still a lot of dirt in the water, you have to rinse again. If the water is almost clean, most of the dirt has already been removed.
After that, the filter is completely clean, and you can place it back in the cartridge. It’s strongly recommended to replace your filter every six months. If it blocks or loses its function before, you should, of course, replace it sooner.
Using cleaning products to maintain your spa
There are several cleaning products that you can use to get your spa sparkling clean again. When maintaining your spa, as mentioned above, it is very important that you mustn’t use corrosive cleaning agents. In addition, it’s highly recommended to purchase various maintenance products and to choose a cover. A good cover ensures that no external dirt enters your Jacuzzi so that you don’t have to change the water as often.
